"xAI strives to connect the dots between fundamental physics, space, humanity, and truth, driven by curiosity and understanding, while its interaction with other AIs shapes the intriguing path of our future."
Introduction
I'm incredibly enthusiastic about the upcoming launch of X.AI. Knowing that it has the support of Elon Musk, I expect it to be something surprising for us. The best way to gauge what's going to happen is to listen to the launch talk on Twitter.
Quotes
- “We are definitely a competition (to OpenAI, Bard, etc.)”
- “We want it to be a useful tool for people, consumers, and businesses. Some competition is better.”
- “Every company has used Twitter for scraping data basically illegally.”
- “It is dangerous to disallow or only allow what is politically correct. We should allow AI to speak freely.”
- “Sometimes it will spit out the truth, which will get a lot of people offended, or things that are counterintuitive but true.”
X.AI’s Vision
Understanding of the universe
The primary goal of X.AI is to gain a profound understanding of the universe. Delving into the mysteries that have eluded human comprehension. This serves as the guiding “North Star” for the company. While it aims to be accessible to all. X.AI is in competition with ChatGPT, Bard, and others. Elon reiterated the “framing the right question” philosophy.
Know the truth
A central aspect of X.AI's mission is to uncover the truth. While this quest for truth may lead to statements that challenge established political beliefs and potentially offend some individuals, the company remains steadfast in its commitment to pursuing and expressing truth.
Pro-humanity
The overarching objective is to prioritize the interests and well-being of humanity, making the advancement of AI technology pro-humanity in nature. We all know Elon had previously emphasized the necessity of regulation in the field of AI. By acknowledging the need for responsible regulation, X.AI aims to ensure that its advancements in AI are aligned with human values.
Background
The current AI approach is primarily focused on innovation and harnessing its potential to enhance businesses. Elon's equations align with this perspective, which I partly agree with, as stated by the speaker, suggesting that some companies may not prioritize a human-centered approach. Additionally, the mention of Google's founder labeling Elon as a "speciest" and Sam's lack of stake ownership in OpenAI raises questions about their underlying intentions.
Other examples include an experimental AI bot developed by Google, or Jarvis, an AI experiment by Meta (then Facebook), but was halted when it began creating its own language. Additionally, Sofia elicited eerie responses when asked questions on singularity.

Traditional ethics
Traditional ethics, which are occasionally taught in schools, include Isaac Asimov's laws, which have also been featured in movies :D
- First Law: A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
- Second Law: A robot must obey the orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
- Third Law: A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
Are the companies really going all innovation and neglecting humanity?
Players
The biggest player in AI right now, which you already know, is
Microsoft Backed OpenAI
ChatGPT has made its way into the mainstream, serving as an educational tool for understanding interactions with AI, thanks to its well-trained model. However, concerns have arisen as ChatGPT started generating code and performing tasks related to human jobs. Despite Sam expressing fondness for family institutions, there are fears that not enough safeguards have been implemented to prevent AI from potentially taking control irreversibly. OpenAI's API enables large-scale management and control of systems, but it carefully adheres to rules and incorporates "brute-force" methods to maintain social correctness and safety.
As of June 2023, ChatGPT has over 100 million users
13 million unique individuals use ChatGPT every day, which is equivalent to the total population of Rwanda. (Ruby, Daniel. “30+ Detailed ChatGPT Statistics — Users & Facts (July 2023).” Demand Sage, https://www.demandsage.com/chatgpt-statistics/. Accessed 20 July 2023.)
Google’s Bard
Bard, as the central AI chatbot, excels in discerning the truth by skillfully providing citations and clarifying its sources and conclusions.
On the other hand, human-like AIs remain largely experimental and not widely available for public use, indicating a cautious approach to the technology. Just like ChatGPT, it doesn't explicitly signify their stance on technological singularity, whereas x.AI, backed by Elon Musk, is founded on the belief that technological singularity can very well be a reality.
Number of Bard users: 30 million monthly active users as of March 2023 (“Google Bard Statistics & facts [July 2023].” MLYearning, 18 July 2023, https://www.mlyearning.org/google-bard-statistics-facts/. Accessed 20 July 2023.)
Comparison of potentials
While ChatGPT, supported by Microsoft, shows significant promise by amalgamating data from business servers for anonymous analytics, the real frontrunner in potential seems to be Google. Google's dominance can be attributed to its vast and extensive data resources, giving it a clear edge in the competition.
A rough estimate of its data access
- Android devices: 3.6 billion active Android devices
- Location Access: There are an estimated 2.5 billion Android devices with active location access in the world. This accounts for over 69% of all Android devices. (blurted out by Bard itself)
- Contacts access: Not disclosed publicly but must be comparable to the size of Android devices.
- Messages: Not disclosed publicly but must be comparable to the size of Android devices.
- Voice, camera, and other sensors. Since Android OS handles access to sensors, its data, either for diagnostics or for analytics, can be used by Google.
Data mining, when combined with extensive information, has the potential to understand individuals better than they know themselves. With such data access, there could be a possibility of creating sophisticated programs or digital entities that mimic and interact like individuals. While I am uncertain if Google would pursue this avenue, it remains a plausible possibility.
Presently, the steps being taken may not be a cause for concern. However, if human-like AI becomes widespread, posing potential vulnerabilities, it is not unfathomable to consider Google entering this domain in the future.
Comparison of visions
This graph illustrates a comparison of companies across three dimensions:
- Singularity/Neglecting humanity vs. Pro-human approach
- Monopolizing vs. Multiple entries vs. Open Approach
- The size of each company's logo represents the perceived potential.
It's essential to acknowledge that obtaining objective data on companies and their policies is challenging. The graph is based on my opinions, considering numerous factors. Moreover, it reflects the current sentiment around AI, which is subject to change.
The factors influencing the positioning of companies on the graph include:
1. Company potential, which considers access to resources and public acceptance.
2. Company history and past actions.
3. Company achievements and accomplishments.
4. Company vision, encompassing long-term goals and core values.
5. Company problem-solving approach in addressing challenges.
Please note that this analysis is subjective and can evolve over time as new information and perspectives emerge.
Prediction
The diverse visions of different companies raise curiosity about how they will interact and shape the future world. Drawing parallels to historical events like the inflection point of personal computers, Microsoft initially led the race, but Apple excelled over the long term.
Likewise, ChatGPT currently holds a dominant position, but it could evolve into a myriad of possibilities, similar to how IBM, despite facing ups and downs, maintains a lasting presence. On the other hand, Google might take a more background role, adhering to rules and appearing "correct" while facing criticism of unfairness.
Elon Musk's evolution is undoubtedly linked to the new decisions concerning AI, which may diverge from his original intentions with x.AI.
I anticipate a cornucopia of possibilities, as explained in my upcoming research on this hypothesis, which I will share within a few weeks.
Hypothesis
Hypothesis: The various applications of AI are shaped by how people use them, leading to a diverse range of AI technologies, each with its distinct use cases, co-existing harmoniously with humans, creating a cornucopia of possibilities.
Argument: However, there may emerge a dominant and immensely powerful AI doctrine or singularity that could potentially monopolize the AI landscape.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the upcoming launch of X.AI, backed by Elon Musk, is anticipated to bring surprises to the AI landscape. X.AI aims to understand the universe, driven by curiosity and a pro-human approach. While the visions of different companies vary, the competition and potential for a cornucopia of AI technologies co-existing with humans add intrigue to the future.
